A Moment of Pride for Birthday Girl, Shruti Gems are found in the most unexpected places. This is what we found in Shruti A coach from Kolhapur, with whom I got acquainted through Deepak Saroj, our marathon runner, introduced me to Miss Shruti Pandey, daughter of an ex-subedar. We started registering her for marathon races in Maharashtra. We started giving her accessories like sports shoes, clothes, travel fare, hotel accommodation etc.. She would run and get medals most of the time. One fine day she announced that she wanted to play cricket. We again invested in accessories like a bat, ball etc... During her first match, she was declared the Best Bowler. Last Aug she announced that she was selected to play in the 6th Senior National Tennis Cricket Championship at Mathura. She also added that 5 girls were selected from Nashik and 4 were poor so not able to pay for the registration. Without knowing the girls, we trusted her and paid for all 4 girls and they reached Mathura. Every day she would update me and request me to pray. I would send feedback to all to pray in turn. And finally, she called and all 5 girls shouted... Aunty, we won the match...I couldn't believe my ears... Our Mumbai team, including these 5 girls won the Trophy. The 6th Senior National Tennis Cricket Championship was held in Mathura, UP and it was a very competitive tournament between teams of 30 different States / UTs. 40 teams with 600+ players in total fought for the final champion slot. Maharashtra team for this tournament had 5 of our girls who participated in all matches and finally won the tournament. This was a super proud moment for all of us as they not only get cash awards but medals, certificates and the winning trophy!! Kudos, Shruti ... may you win many more accolades...
