An Unexpected Bonanza

We keep saying there are many Indians but “We hardly win anything, especially in sports”, is a common comment by many. One must know sports is something that requires a lot of investment in nutrition and health. This is what happened with Bhakti and her association with Sona Sarovar Trust.

17-year-old Bhakti lives in a small village called  Bhogavati, in Kolhapur
Her father is a daily wage earner, a labourer & mother works as a Farm Labourer.
They can't afford to pay fees for the Club to practice in a pool & diet food so Bhakti goes to a nearby river called Bhogavati to practice, which could be very dangerous.
She has participated at the District & State level.
She had been selected for National Level Competition which was held in Telangana.
4 years back we paid for the Club Membership & diet food and got her a swimsuit required for competition so that she could learn to swim professionally and keep away from dirty water & risk to her life.
She participated in The World School Swim Championship in Normandy, France held from 22 to 25 May 2022 & had reached the finals in 50,100 & 200 Freestyle Backstroke.
She has been selected for Khelo India which will be held in Haryana.

This is something remarkable for someone from her background as she had no one to support her in her dreams. India itself will progress only if we all encourage everyone as people of potential. We all are happy to have taken a step in this direction, for all great things begin with small steps taken regularly with determination. Kudos to Bhakti for her achievement.
